![]() The main problem here is that WoA isn’t normally licensed to individual users, which has meant that owners of M1 and M2 Macs faced both technical and licensing problems if they wanted to run Windows on their Macs. Windows On ARM, aka WoA, is Microsoft’s version of Windows is designed to run on ARM chips. The good news is that an ARM version of Windows does exist. Even if Boot Camp was an option for modern Macs, because the M-series processors are not compatible with the with the x86 version of Windows, they would only be able to run an ARM version of Windows. These new Macs that are based on the M1 chip – or any of its successors including the M1 Pro and Max, the M2 and the M2 Pro and Max – don’t offer Boot Camp. Rather than the x86 architecture used by Intel processors, the Apple’s M1 processors use a different architecture, known as ARM (named after Arm Ltd, the British company that originally designed the chips). However, in 2020 Apple announced that it would be moving away from using Intel processors to its own Apple Silicon processors and this transition began with the arrival of the ARM-based M1 Chip in November 2020. There are millions of Intel-based Macs still in use all around the world that can still use either Boot Camp or virtualization to run Windows. The only disadvantage is that you need a pretty fast Mac with plenty of memory and storage to run Windows as a VM, since it means that your Mac is effectively running two operating systems at the same time. This is a great solution as it allows you to run the Windows apps that you need right alongside your main Mac apps as well. ![]() So you can create a VM on your Mac and then install Windows – or another operating systems, such as Linux – on the VM. Virtualization programs such as Parallels Desktop and VMWare Fusion run on the macOS, but allow you to create a Virtual Machine – or VM – that mimics the hardware of a Windows PC. So if you have purchased a Mac in the past couple or years, and it doesn’t have an Intel processor, Boot Camp won’t even be an option. There’s another issue with Boot Camp that is even more pressing though: it isn’t a feature of M-series Macs. There are third-party solutions that address both of these issues. Another issue, specifically with Windows 11 on Macs, is that Windows 11 requires the presence of a TPM (trusted platform module) to run and Macs don’t have these. Many people find it inconvenient to constantly switch back and forth between the macOS and Windows. The problem with Boot Camp is that it forces users to make a choice – either you run the macOS or you run Windows. Users could simply dual boot a Mac, starting it up running either the macOS or Windows. This is a utility that allows you to partition your Mac’s hard drive or SSD – effectively splitting it in two – leaving the main macOS on one partition, and then allowing you to install Windows on the new partition. ![]() This was a benefit to Apple because it took away one of the biggest concerns of Windows users when considering a move to the Mac – it meant they could bring Windows and their Windows software with them.Īnd, in true Apple style, it came up with an elegant solution, known as Boot Camp. When Apple moved to Intel processors back in 2006-2007, it also brought the ability to run Windows to the Mac because the macOS and Windows OS suddenly spoke the same language (the x86 instruction set used in Intel processors). ![]() ![]() Take in an open air concert at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus.Stroll through the National Gardens and see the Temple of Zeus.Catch the Red Hop on Hop off bus to visit various ancient sites and points of interest.Read our Full Guide on how to do this and the Acropolis Museum. At least a set number of successful attempts? Or no more than a certain number of successful tries? Choose the correct option from the list. How many times are you going to repeat the experiment? Put that number as the number of flips in the calculator. What are the two possibilities that can happen? Assign heads to one of them and tails to the other. Let's look at a step-by-step example to see how to calculate the probability of an event using the coin toss probability calculator:ĭetermine your experiment. Mathematically, we talk about the binomial probability distribution. It all boils down to getting your hands on a coin that is weighted appropriately. In other words, if you assign the success of your experiment, be it getting tails or the girl agreeing to your proposal, to one side of the coin and the other option to the back of the coin, the coin toss probability will determine the answer. Whether you want to toss a coin or ask a girl out, there are only two possibilities that can occur. " Hey man, but girls and coins are two different things! I should know I've seen at least one of each." Well, let me explain that these two problems are basically the same, that is, from the point of view of mathematics. Not very likely to happen, is it? Maybe you should try being less beautiful! In this case, your odds are 210 × (9 / 10) 4 × (1 / 10) 6 = 0.000137781, where the 210 comes from the number of possible fours of girls among the ten that would agree. If you multiply the probability of each event by the number of times you want it to occur, you get the chance that your scenario will come true. This means that you want the other six girls to reject you, which, based on your good looks, has only a 1 / 10 chance of happening (The sum of all events happening is always equal to 1, so we get this number by subtracting 9 / 10 from 1). ![]() So a solid 9 / 10 then.Īs you only want to go on four dates, that means you only want four of your romance attempts to succeed. If you have problems with assessing your looks fairly, go downstairs and let your grandma tell you what a handsome young gentleman you are. One of those has got to be the one, right? The first thing you have to do in this situation is look in the mirror and rate how likely a girl is to agree to go out with you when you start talking to her. More specifically, you want to ask ten girls out and go on a date with only four of them. Say that you're a teenager straight out of middle school and decide that you want to meet the love of your life this year. Go to the dice probability calculator if you want a shortcut.īut what if you repeat an experiment a hundred times and want to find the odds that you'll obtain a fixed result at least 20 times? We'll be waiting here until you get back to tell us we've been right all along. So go on, roll it, say, a thousand times. Remember that the more times you repeat an experiment, the more trustworthy the results. If you don't believe me, take a die and roll it a few times, and note the results. ![]() ![]() Therefore, the probability of obtaining 6 when you roll the die is 1 / 6. If it is a fair die, then the likelihood of each of these results is the same, i.e., 1 in 6 or 1 / 6. If you have a standard, 6-face die, then there are six possible outcomes, namely the numbers from 1 to 6. When you look at all the things that may occur, the formula (just as our coin flip probability formula) states that: Classical probability problems often need you to find how often one outcome occurs versus another and how one event happening affects the probability of future events happening. The probability of some event happening is a mathematical (numerical) representation of how likely it is to happen, where a probability of 1 means that an event will always happen, while a probability of 0 means that it will never happen. ![]() ![]() No other mammal can swivel their head as far. The eyeballs can't move within the eyes sockets, but the neck is designed to allow the head to rotate 180 degrees in either direction, giving them a 360 degree field of vision, just like an owl. Tarsiers spend most of their time clinging to vertical reeds and branches. The tail is not prehensile, but acts as a rudder in the air, and like a tripod at rest, allowing the tarsier to sit comfortably on vertical branches.Īt one time they could be found in many corners of the world, including Europe and North America, but now they live in rainforests throughout Borneo, Indonesia, and the Philippines. Tarsiers also have a long, mostly naked tail, often with a little tuft of hair on the end, that actually has dermal ridges like a fingerprint on the underside, to provide traction against smooth surfaces. There are flattened nails on all fingers and toes except the third and fourth toes, which have long, curved claws designed specifically for grooming. The thumb is not opposable, but the big toe is, and the hind foot is able to rotate drastically to allow grasping of branches in a variety of positions. The hands and feet have tiny, rounded tips, like suction cups. They are usually on the ground for just a few moments while they trap and eat an insect or two, then return to the trees. On the ground, the tarsier hops like a frog, but can also move with a quadrupedal walk. In the tarsier it is the calcaneum and navicular bones of the ankle, also known as the tarsal bones, that are freakishly long, and this is actually where the name tarsier comes from. ![]() The tarsiers body proportions are similar to that of a kangaroo, with shorter front limbs and stretched out hind legs, but in the kangaroo it is mostly the shin - the tibia and the fibula bones - that are elongated. They spend the night hunting for insects, and the occasional reptile or tiny bird, and journey through the forest by springing from tree to tree, using their incredible legs to jump up to 15 feet in one shot, or practically 30 times their body length. The tarsier is one of the smallest primates, most certainly one of the oldest, and also the only primate that is completely carnivorous. The coiled position they are most often photographed in, makes them look round, maybe even a little plump, however the tarsier is actually a slender, lean athlete, with the longest legs relative to total body size of any animal on Earth. Most of us have only seen them static, frozen in a photo, or a meme, like a fuzzy brown tennis ball, clinging to a reed. They have expressive hands and fingers, and freakishly long hind legs folded up under their bellies. Today the plans moved a step closer with Transport for London (TfL) and Network Rail launching a public consultation on the proposed routes. Results of the consultation will be published before the end of the year, according to TfL.With London’s population set to boom, plans are underway for a vital new rail line, Crossrail 2, in order to support this future growth. The project, which is due to start in 2020, has gained overwhelming support from Hackney residents according to Tfl who stated that 96 per cent of public respondents “strongly support or support the principle of Crossrail 2.” “To do so could see a situation develop where the borough only has a single station on the line and effectively the access to employment and regeneration opportunities which we would expect to be delivered with Crossrail 2 would pass the borough by.”įactoring in this risk, the council has stated a preference for a development of the Chelsea-Hackney scheme which would see both Dalston Junction and Hackney Central served on a single alignment. In the council’s response to the Crossrail 2 consultation Paul Bowker, Group Manager of Networks and Transportation for Hackney, said: “We cannot effectively risk a position whereby we accept a Dalston Junction Station on a Northern Branch of the railway with the expectation that Hackney Central would be served by the Eastern Branch. ![]() There has also been support for a proposed Eastern Branch that could connect Hackney as far as Hertfordshire in the north and Surrey in the south, however there is little certainty at this stage that such a branch will come forward. “A transparent and detailed discussion of both these elements are crucial to ensure Crossrail 2 unlocks the full potential of north and east London.” Nor has it explained how the proposed ‘Eastern Branch’ extension would tie in to the project. “TfL has so far failed to demonstrate a clear business case for why it’s gone back on its original plans for Crossrail 2 stations at both Dalston Junction and Hackney Central. To capitalise on this potential and manage the associated increase in travel demand both need a fit-for-purpose public transport network which Crossrail 2 would provide. The council is keen to see the original Chelsea to Hackney scheme safeguarded, which would connect both Hackney Central and Dalston, both “key growth areas”, to central London in just eight or nine minutes.Ĭllr Guy Nicholson, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said that Crossrail 2 could be of great benefit to Hackney and London as a whole and could “unlock” regeneration sites in the Upper Lee Valley.īut he said that reducing the number of stations to just one risked “wasting the huge potential of the borough”.Ĭllr Nicholson said: “Hackney Central and Dalston are two of the fastest growing areas in London in terms of jobs, housing and visitor economy. While no decisions have yet been made, TfL has raised the possibility of reducing Hackney’s Crossrail 2 stations to one and has estimated that if this plan was implemented up to £1bn could be saved. In a recent online consultation, TfL asked the public to indicate whether the single tunnel should stop at either Hackney Central or Dalston, or at both as was proposed in 2013. ![]() Hackney Council is calling on TfL to implement the original 2013 plans for the route of Crossrail 2 and build two stations in the borough, one in Dalston and one in Hackney Central.
